The Gravity of Sadness

And among flying ashes, there are those who see beauty.

For you, who can hear the soft laments of dust.

Shady Shady

Sadness sits, her long legs draped over the rock where once, hope dared to sprout.

Her feet — heavy, cold, and bare —rest on the soil of tomorrow.

Her big toe, naked and wounded, taps the earth with immense pain —softly, steadily.

There, what cannot be found begins: an eternal wound, hollow, forsaken.

In a mad attempt to lull herself, Sadness forgets who she is.

And tomorrow... never arrives.

She stays seated — pressed down, sunken into the deepest part of her own being.

With no eyes to face forward, her path is dictated by the impulse of her wounded toe.

She feeds, hungry, on what is not.

But never hungry enough to ask what might be.

Unaware, she smothers the faint sprout of hope rising timidly from the rock of faith.

Before she sits, she arrives beautiful —subtle, whispering in your ear.

So gentle and serene, she hypnotizes reason.

She finds the highest peak, and lets the winds carry her.

Here and there, Joy pulls her to dance.

Thinking without reason, she lets herself go.

And in that dance, Joy’s flame begins to dim.

Her vibrant fire gently falls in step with the heartbeat of Sadness’s toe.

And so, on an ordinary day —neither good nor bad —the smile is gone.

What is, is not.

What is not, cannot be.

Oh eternal void! Let me fill you with my sadness.

And that is why Sadness remains —seated, her long legs stretched over the soil of tomorrow, with no eyes to see it.

And that is also why she is beautiful.

Because she dreams of what has never been seen, searches for what she already holds, feels with a heart not yet found.

Eternal and alone, she feels everything in her solitude.

That makes her heavy, isolated, empty —so much so that even gravity helps her turn to ash.

Yet even as dust, she is beautiful.

Her tiny grains, scattered by the wind, create moans, tears, wounds, pain...all very, very small.

Just enough to create beautiful poetry.

Just enough to offer rest to reason, and open space for a life without meaning.
